Being residents of Southampton we like all our fundraising efforts to benefit the local community directly. Aside from taking the gifts along to the hospital Christmas Morning we support 2 local charities with the monies we raise from our mammoth tombola.
Families of Ocean Ward is based at Southampton General and was set up to support the patients and families of those children who are battling with cardiac disease.
Our mission is to provide emotional and financial support to families making use of the facilities on Ocean Ward.
Our aim is to help bridge the gap between home and hospital by putting families in touch with others whose child has a similar condition and experiences similar problems and issues. This is especially important as the paediatric cardiac unit in Southampton treats children not only in the local area but also heart children as far down as Devon, Cornwall, across to West Sussex and Wiltshire.
Due to the recently formed Southampton / Oxford network, Ocean Ward now treats patients previously treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital and from the Oxfordshire area.
Southampton Children’s Hospital Charity enhances the support, care and treatment of patients at Southampton Children’s Hospital. We provide support to areas of the hospital that lie beyond the scope of NHS funding.
This includes funding specialist equipment, ward refurbishments and improvements, support for our patients, family and staff, as well as pioneering research.
